Example ads I designed for Sweet Comb Chicago product. Most of these are composite images created in photoshop. I also designed the labels on the product in the images. These ads were used in print and social media.

Urban Beekeeper
Brand Image | Packaging

I partnered with a local beekeeper to develop brand image and packaging design for Sweet Comb Chicago, a local company that provides safe havens for bees to help combat bee population decline.

Located in Rogers Park, a Chicago neighborhood, the Sweet Comb Chicago product line began with pure honey. It has grown to include a range of products made from honey and honey by-products, including shaving soap and beard conditioner to hand and body balm.

Because Sweet Comb Chicago’s line will continue to expand, I created a consistent packaging look but with flexible design components – so each new product’s packaging is unique.

Canal Shores was originally established as the Evanston-Wilmette Golf Course in 1919. Over the years, the course fell into disrepair. The community responded by banding together to revitalize the course, renaming it Canal Shores. After collaborating with the board to create a brand image, I created T-shirts, print collateral, a digitally published promotional story, a billboard, banners, and social media postings.

Course attendance has improved dramatically. Today, golfers as well as dog walkers, joggers, and bird watchers use the course. Canal Shores also hosts community-focused events, including movie nights and family campouts.

I developed branding, packaging, a website design, and marketing collateral for an urban beekeeper. The product line began with honey and has grown to include grooming products made from honey by-products. Sweet Comb Chicago beehives are located in Rogers Park, a Chicago neighborhood, where they help combat the decline of the bee population.

Organic Lawn Service

Collaborating with the owner of an organic lawn care service, I updated their logo, created icons, and an art style to represent their company.

The illustrations were made by collaging photos and then using a posterization technique.

Recovery Café | Addiction outreach organization

Recovery Café is a nonprofit outreach organization located in a rural, farming community.

Organized and operated by concerned local volunteers, they are providing care, programs, and support to help recovery from addiction and more.  A note on their website: "Never underestimate what a couple of determined moms can do."

I was happy to support their cause with the design of their logo and suggestions for social media. Good luck Recovery Café! You are doing great work!

Design packaging and promotion of Covid 19 products manufactured and distributed by Sweet Comb Chicago.

I collaborated with the owner of an organic lawn care service to update the company’s brand image and create an art style for promotions. I then applied this style to several pieces.

I enjoy working with this ecologically responsible client.

Urban Beekeeper
Promotion

I developed print and online promotion for Sweet Comb Chicago, a company owned and operated by a Rogers Park, Chicago beekeeper. The Sweet Comb Chicago line of products is made from honey and honey by-products. The owner maintains hives, which provide a safe haven for bees and help combat the decline in their population. Chicago is one of the few places where the number of honeybees seems to be increasing slightly – thanks to backyard and rooftop beekeeper’s apiaries, like Sweet Comb Chicago. Shown here is the brand style I created for Sweet Comb Chicago promotional pieces, including a Whole Foods post and men’s grooming products promotion. I created the word "thank you" in honey using Photoshop for an enclosure card and added a bee.

This is a start-up with a great business attitude. They distributes all-inclusive hydroponic growing systems. Sized appropriately from table top for home use, to container sized for mass production.

They also sponsor growing system labs in schools where the produce is used in the lunch program.

With their system the plants are grown without harmful chemicals, naturally with water and light.

Candle Artisan

I worked closely with a small, upscale candle artisan to design a logo that represents her sense of style.

We followed that with package design for her product line, and then an online store.

The website opens with a slide show representing the product categories. Examples of each line are shown in these original photographs.

I set and followed packaging guides to create labels for more than 150 Raven Lake Candles’ products.

I designed the logo and website for the agriculture division of Full Circle 26, Inc.

Shown here, following the logo, is the home page.

This is a start-up with a great business attitude. They distribute all-inclusive hydroponic growing systems. Sized appropriately for the tabletop for home use, to container sized for mass production.

They also sponsor growing system labs in schools. The students use the equipment to grow produce that is served in the cafeteria.

I enjoyed working with the AHRMM, the Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management, a professional membership group of the American Hospital Association.

Following their style guide and working with their marketing department, I designed and prepared files for print for the pieces shown here.

Including: A report comparing compensation in the healthcare industry. The 2018 media kit and promotional postcard. I also refined and updated icons and designed infographics.

Catalog Design and Production
Study abroad programs for college students.

I worked with the IES Study Abroad Program marketing department’s art director to layout and produce a series of catalogs, which followed the Program’s design style guide. The catalogs described study abroad programs for college students. Thirteen individual catalogs, totaling 500 pages, featured trips available by geographic areas. The individual geographic-specific catalogs were bound together into a set for college study abroad offices.

A children’s book that I wrote and illustrated.

New Seasons Gift and Stationery Division
New Product Development

I co-managed a department charged with product development. We attended trade shows, followed the market trends, and recommended products for development. I designed physical formats and communicated with Asian vendors to have formats prototyped. I traveled to Asia several times a year to meet with manufacturers and source materials.

After prototype selection was approved, my department produced print files to manufacture the first example.

A new product could be something completely new, like adding a metal frame that holds a photo onto the cover of a photo album. An example of that is the Metal Craft line which was very successful.

Children's Products

I developed product formats and designed products to initiate the Children's Division at Publications International, Ltd. A few examples are shown here. Based on this work, PIL attracted attention from Disney, Sesame Street, and other companies.
