Project example: I worked with the marketing team of a community golf course to rebrand it. I then applied the new logo and style to a variety of promotional pieces that were used to introduce the course updates to the community. Response was positive and attendance increased dramatically.
1995 - May 2013 - Publications International, Ltd. - New Seasons - Research and Development
In this position I worked with a partner and a small team to develop stationery and photo products. We researched the market, identified directions, reviewed concepts with our publisher, and worked with domestic and international manufacturers to develop new products. My primary focus was on physical form and construction, which was most commonly of paper, but also included metal, fabric, leather, plastic and wood elements. Product development included constructing prototypes and/or diagrams and narrative to send to an Asian vendor and working with Purchasing to keep manufacturing costs in range given the expected sale price. Often several iterations were needed to ensure the functionality of the physical format and meet budget. Our team also selected art and designed graphic coverings before the sales staff presented products to prospective buyers. Once prototypes were approved for production, final art would be created and the product would be manufactured.
I traveled to Asia, India, Thailand and the Philippines to attend trade shows, visit vendor showrooms and factories, scout new materials and ideas, start projects, and check on current production.
1992 - 1995 - Publications International, Ltd. - Children’s Book Division - Creative Director
I helped start and build this business that became a large part of PIL. Our group developed formats that continue to sell. I helped develop and produce non-licensed product that attracted attention from large licensers. Using the styles and physical formats that I developed, PIL partnered and published books with Disney, Sesame Street, Warner Brothers, and more. My children were very young at this time and it was fun to develop product with them in mind.
